Student Housing 2009

For those finishing their first year of university, this usually means leaving behind university provided accommodation or halls of residence. Students are now faced with the challenge of finding suitable private sector accommodation, and for many this can be a daunting prospect.

The best private accommodation will be taken quickly, making this a stressful time for students. What are students looking for in a property? Some of the obvious criteria would be the number of rooms and location. The most desirable properties will likely be placed closed to the university; other desirable locations will be near popular amenities such as parks, leisure facilities and supermarkets. Properties near to public transport are also a big plus. As for the interior of the house, students will be looking for basics such as working heating and electricity, smoke alarms, security systems and mould/damp free. The number of beds, size, layout and bathrooms will also be a big factor.

The demand for good student accommodation can be great, so much so that students at Oxford University have been seen queuing outside local letting agents to claim the best properties!

What could a landlord hoping to rent out a student property do to help maximise rents and minimise vacancies? Aside from the essentials mentioned earlier, high quality, stylish buy to let furniture could help your property to stand out from the crowd. Here at Lodge we have put together student furniture packs specifically designed to fulfil the needs of student tenants. The furniture in these packs has been put together to match and offers superior quality, alleviating students the worry of having to purchase their own furniture. Additionally, to save the hassle of purchasing additional electrical appliances we also offer a white goods pack, as well as home furniture accessories.

Hopefully these tips will give buy to let landlords some pointers to consider when maximising the revenues from their student tenants.

Furniture Show January ‘09 (Birmingham NEC)

The team at Lodge Furniture recently attended the renowned Interiors Birmingham trade show for those in the interior trade business. This large event included a section dedicated to furniture, showcasing the latest products and designs from many different exhibitors. We were so impressed with the offerings that we have put together a small selection of some of our favourite furniture pieces.

First up are some grand designs in the occasional furniture range from family owned furniture makers, Bernhardt. Their ‘Michigan Avenue’ entertainment centre looks stunning in Mahogany, we’re sure you’ll agree! An excellent accompliament for a big screen TV.

SH Direct provided a great line up, our pick from this manufacturer is their range of bedroom furniture, in particular the solid wood Madison range:
